IMG-20240526-WA0005~2I write original, captivating articles, blog posts and social media content that grab the reader’s attention and accurately showcase the tone and voice of your business or brand. I have taken on freelance work for a variety of companies all over the world, and enjoy the diverse topics and styles these opportunities have offered.

What I love writing about the most is craft beer, travel, music and lifestyle – I enjoy exploring new cities, sampling the best local brews and food, and telling people all about it, as well as attending local gigs and metal festivals.

Beer-wise, I used to be a frequent contributor to Ferment magazine, and have worked for several breweries and beer festivals, as well as two of my local independent bottle-shops. I also have a lot of experience of hosting beer tasting events and food and drink pairing evenings – for the likes of Beer52, beer festivals, and breweries. I am a Cicerone-certified beer server, and am currently working on my second level of qualifications.

Some of my work for Ferment magazine includes city guides such as Edinburgh, Malmö, Helsinki, and a collection of European cities. Over the years I have hosted various bottleshares for Beer52, such as one in my city of Edinburgh. I’ve also contributed longform articles on topics such as Queer beer drinking groups across the UK, a brief history of Scottish beer, and a guide to the beer and brewing scene in my neighbourhood of Leith.

Furthermore, in 2021 I led the UK’s movement calling out sexism and harassment in the beer industry, which led to appearances on national TV, national radio, beer festival events, online panels, and features in various publications. I received an award from Beer52 for this, and wrote an article for hospitality magazine and online platform Burum Collective on the experience.

As an enthusiastic itchy-footed travel writer, I have written city and travel guides for various businesses, as well as creating web and print copy for a luxury travel company, and reviewing places myself, such as of a luxury guest house in the Highlands, a stunning house on Easdale Island and a remote cottage on the Isle of Mull for Cool Cottages Scotland.

You can see my beer-related writing portfolio at britishbeergirl.wordpress.com/about and my work experience on LinkedIn; if you’d like to ask for references, have queries, or would like more specific work examples, I’m just an email away.

A bit about me and my non-professional life: I enjoy cooking, TV comedies and horror movies, metal music and going to gigs, true crime documentaries and podcasts, hanging out with my cat, reading, and playing video games. I also run a monthly(ish) meet-up group called Queer Beer Drinkers Edinburgh, for LGBTQIA+ folks to get together in pubs and brewery taprooms across the city and drink good beer.
